Recently I’ve been thinking about home workouts as I’ve been working out at home more, traveling and generally try to fit in short workouts where possible and one thing I use in a lot of workouts is resistance bands. Resistance bands have a lot of benefits to a home workout and as I got the chance to review these resistance bands by King Athletics I figured I’d combine a review with a blog post on why resistance bands belong in every home gym!
First up, they take up very little space! If you’re going to get resistance bands buy a set that is adjustable and going to grow with you. This set from King Athletics has 5 bands in the set from 6 – 20 lbs of resistance with a total of a possible 69 lbs resistance. If you had that in dumbbells it’d take up a LOT of room! Instead you have a small bag which is about 7″ across. Not much storage space at all!
You can pack a LOT into a small bag. This could be a whole gym in a bag. However not all sets are created equal. This one from King Athletic is a great set. It includes 5 resistance bands, 2 handles, a door anchor, and ankle straps. That gives you a TOTAL BODY workout in a bag. The bag itself has a few diagrams of exercises you can do with the resistance bands so no instruction booklet to lose as it’s printed directly on the bag! Awesome!
You can do a variety of exercises with the bands. Having universal handles making changing the resistance super easy, just flick the carabiner unhook and choose a different band to hook to the handles. Bands have consistent tension which is something dumbbells just don’t have. This means there is continuous resistance with the bands, whereas dumbbells have a spot where gravity no longer creates a challenge.
Resistance bands usually come with a door anchor. I’d advise against buying a set that doesn’t. This set from King Athletics has a great large door anchor. So what’s the big deal on the door anchor? Well it creates an anchor point for the bands so you can push and pull against. This means you can do lat pull downs, chest press, shoulder press and other push/pull type exercises. Some like the lat pull down just CANNOT be done with dumbbells so this makes resistance bands essential to a home gym! Obviously you can stand on the bands for a lot of different upper body exercises but what about legs?
Well that’s where the ankle straps come in handy 😉 I was SUPER IMPRESSED with the ankle straps I got in this set. They were the only ones I actually felt like I could use for leg exercises, because they fit snugly on my ankle. King Athletic really put some effort into this set and the ankle straps are by far the best I’ve seen in a set. They are fully adjustable and close with velcro. Anchoring the band in the door with the ankle strap secured I easily performed curls, kick backs, abduction and more. Don’t underestimate the need of a perfectly fitting ankle strap!
In all I think every home gym needs resistance bands and you cannot go wrong with this set by King Athletics. The bands and carabiners are of high quality an are the ankle straps and door anchor. I’ve used a few sets of these now and this is by far one of the better sets I’ve ever used. For ankle straps its the best I’ve used! Heck they fit which is more than can be said for others. Thumbs up for the King Athletic Resistance Band set!!!!
